“The mountains are calling and I must go there”
Balamban is a high-class municipality in the province of Cebu. It is one of the towns that sculpted a national history because of the death of former President Ramon Magsaysay. It was on March 16, 1957, when President Magsaysay died due to a plane crash happened in Mount Manunggal. He boarded a C-47 Mt. Pinatubo Plane heading back to Manila from Cebu’s business appointments. The plane was boarded with 25 passengers including Magsaysay and only 1 survived, Nestor Mata, a news reporter.
Mount Manunggal is a high mountain located in Sunog, Balamban rising 1, 003 meters or 3,290 feet above sea level.
I have been to this mountain several times already, but for the loved of my amo, I accompanied him to his first Mount Manunggal experience. 🙂
In honor of historic incident happened, every 16th and 17th day of March the Local Government Unit of Balamban will hold trekking, climbing, biking and some fiesta activities in the mountain from 16th dawn up until 17th dawn.
This activity is one of the most looked forward of the Balambanganons where people from the town climbed up to the mountain set up their tents and enjoyed the best cool atmosphere this mountain has to offer plus the fun activities prepared by the local government of Balamban.
However, the activities are not intended for the local constituents but also there are many local tourists within Cebu especially those hikers who really marked their calendars for this annual event.
